Meet the hosts
Dr. Bill Weiss
Dr. Bill Weiss is a Professor emeritus of dairy cattle nutrition at The Ohio State University. During his 35-year career at Ohio State University, he conducted research in the areas of effects of minerals and vitamins on cow health, forage and feed evaluation, and methods to incorporate variability into ration formulation for dairy cattle and has published more than 150 journal articles. He also had an extension appointment conducting numerous short courses on dairy cattle nutrition and wrote more than 450 proceedings and extension articles. He has won several American Dairy Science Association awards and was named a Fellow of ADSA in 2015. He served on the 2001 Dairy NRC committee and as co-chair on the 2021 NASEM (formerly NRC) Dairy Committee. Dr. Weiss earned his B.S. and M.S. at Purdue University and his Ph.D. at The Ohio State University.
Dr. Luiz F. Ferraretto
Luiz Ferraretto is originally from Brazil where he earned his B.S. in Animal Science from São Paulo State University in 2008. Immediately after the completion of his B.S. Degree, Luiz joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison for an internship (2009) followed by an M.S. (2011) and Ph.D. (2015) in dairy science with a focus on applied dairy nutrition and forage quality. After the completion of his Ph.D., Luiz joined The William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute as a Post-doctoral Research Associate. From 2016 to 2020, Luiz was an Assistant Professor of Livestock Nutrition at the University of Florida. Luiz joined UW-Madison in May of 2020.
His research and extension interests are applied ruminant nutrition and management. His program is focused on understanding and improving starch and fiber utilization by dairy cows, corn silage and high-moisture corn quality and digestibility, the use of alternative by-products as feed ingredients, supplementation of feed additives to lactating cows, and the development of on-farm and laboratory techniques for forage and feed analysis.
Meet the founder
Dr. Marcio Goncalves
Dr. Marcio Goncalves earned his veterinary degree from UFRGS, a top university in Brazil, and his PhD in applied swine nutrition from Kansas State University and worked as Global Nutritionist for one of the major swine genetic companies where he led nutrient requirement updates, diet formulation & feeding program for nucleus farms, development of nutritional economic models, and reviewing diets from over 100 customers. Currently, he is the founder of Wisenetix, the largest network of podcasts in the agriculture industry.
He has over 15 years of experience in swine production with exposure to over 20 countries and 120 research studies in pig nutrition/production and his life purpose is to create a positive impact in the world through knowledge dissemination in the global ag industry.
